In Trucking For The Long Haul Or The Short?

Truck driving careers are becoming more popular year after year. With good pay and better benefits trucking companies are providing solid careers for many truckers.

Long haul truckers can spend months out on the highways moving goods across the country. Shipping companies work year around and move goods from boats, trains, and planes all the way to you local store and even living room.

A good example of a seasonal trucker would be an ice road trucker. For only two months of the year the ice near the arctic circle becomes home to the select few truckers to brave the harsh conditions.

Coal truckers move coal year around as miners harvest the coal. There are also many jobs for rock truckers and other movers. You sure can’t forget movers and shipping companies.

Short haul trucking companies delivery goods in a limited area but sometimes might have to delivery further than expected. Some truckers may have a route that they take everyday such as a trip from Birmingham to Atlanta back to Birmingham.

Local drivers may have a daily a weekly route even a monthly route they take. Independent owner operators usually own their own rigs and contract hauling jobs.

One positive, however, of short haul trucking is job security. Many locally moved goods need to be moved everyday and many companies hire full time drivers. Many of these positions may have a very good benefit package for truckers.

So, if you are looking for the long haul or want to be a short haul trucker, the road can be a great place to start a long career. If you need a new career, don’t be afraid.
