Decor For Teen Rooms

Teen rooms are a headache for mothers everywhere. It’s not even like when they were younger. In those days, if their rooms were in a mess, you could shout at them and get them to clean it up, and, barring that, you could go in and do a good job yourself. But when it comes to teens and their rooms you’re dealing with a completely different kettle of fish.

True, you could go and tell them to clean up their rooms. And yes, you could shout at them a bit too, if you wanted to, or you could go and clean up the room yourself. However, that’s when the trouble begins. Teen rooms are private places and not to be interfered with unless you’re invited to.

Let Heaven help anyone who tries to clean up the mess on the carpet. It was there for a good reason and you just had absolutely no right whatsoever to touch it. At least, that will be what most teens will argue and, you being the patient, loving mother that you are, will just roll your eyes skywards and explain that the pizza and grubby, old shirt thing just don’t work well together and that you were just rescuing them from impending plague.

Your teens will in turn roll their eyes and protest loudly, that no it wasn’t about to grow legs and walk off on its own, and if it was then wouldn’t that be a great science project. You keep cleaning and they keep putting things back. End of story, and you’re basically right back to square one.

Of course, one way that you could deal with this catastrophe is to redecorate it. Teen rooms might be sanctums to them, but even they would love it if you gave their rooms a fantastic makeover.

That doesn’t mean that the room will be any tidier after they have moved back in, but at least you’ll have been able to seen the inside of the room long enough to satisfy you for the next few years. That is unless you’re thinking of redoing their rooms every year.

But now you come to your next problem. Since teens are notoriously different with regard to their rooms. You might find that your teen rooms are done out very differently from that which you had expected and that which you would have done first of all. This is where a comprise ought to be struck, if your teen wants black walls for his room, then say you want another colour too that will brighten up the black.

Be prepared to give in a lot on your ideas no matter how ridiculous their ideas seem. After all, they’re only a teen for a while and later they will look back with horror on what bad taste they had.

It is your duty as a parent to allow them these moments in their lives that they can look back on with mock horror, and ban their kids from doing the same to their own teen rooms.

While having a great looking garden is important you will need to think about ways of allowing the beauty of your garden to show through in various types of weather conditions. Some people also like to have the option of having their garden illuminated in the night. For these many people, looking at various landscape lighting options will allow you the opportunity of having your garden looking just the way you want it, no matter what the natural lighting conditions are.

In order to provide the right landscape lighting conditions, you will be able to choose from a wide variety of lighting fixtures. These fittings can be in the form of lamps, lanterns, spotlights, halogen lights and even solar-powered lights. The price of these lighting fixtures varies for each style of lighting.

When you are planning on using landscape lighting you will have to decide where to place the lights to get the best lighting effects. You may also want to consider which lights will provide your garden with an all over lighting. You can look in landscaping magazines to get an idea of the many different ways that these landscape lighting fixtures can be used.

While it is possible to get ideas for placing landscape lighting in your garden from landscape and gardening magazines, there is another way as well. For this other method, you have to look at your garden in the daytime and in the night time. In the morning you will need to look what places in your garden would be improved by the use of landscape lighting. When night falls look out at your garden again and see what areas would benefit from the use of lighting.

Then, the morning after this nocturnal inspection, you should go out into the garden and mark out roughly where you feel there is a need for lighting. Once you have looked at this area properly, try imagining what sort of lights would be of use. You can then go to the garden store to look for these lights, once you have decided on the sort of landscape lighting.

Then, after you have found your perfect lights and you have read the instructions on setting them up you will have to commence fixing the landscape lighting in a way that will make the most out of your garden. You ought to try subtle and strong lighting to decide on the best for your garden. Coloured lighting is a good option too. You could use a dimmer to trial stronger and subtle lighting.

After you have finished your trials and installed the final version, you will see what a difference having the right landscape lighting can make to your garden. From now on, when night falls you will still be able to appreciate just how beautiful garden is.

Decorating Children’s Rooms

If you’re bored with the way your home looks one of the best things that you can do is to redecorate it. Not necessarily all at once of course, as this can lead to headache upon headache for you and is almost guaranteed to bring stress into your life when you really didn’t need it. However if you work room by room, your redecorating project will become that much easier and simpler to manage.

Your next step then is to figure out which room you want to decorated first. It’s not an easy choice to make but it must be done nevertheless. How about starting by decorating the kids rooms first as this will lead to a general air of satisfaction amongst them and can help you in the long run too.

Decorating kids rooms can be an enjoyable way to pass your time and also gives you the chance to bond with your children too. I can’t think of a better way to get close to your children than by getting down to their level and talking about the things that appeal to them. Decorating their rooms might be the best way to do that.

But where do you start? If you have more than one child you need to be careful whose room you’re going to decorate first, as things can get fraught. Decorating kids rooms can be fraught with tension if you don’t handle it properly, so I’ve found that the best way to handle this is to toss a coin in the air and have the kids call heads or tails.

This method might not work if you’ve got more than two kids or more than two rooms to decorate, in which case I’d suggest you just get on with it and begin all the decorating at once instead of tackling it room by room.

However, at least you’re not redecorating the whole house in one go and this way you promote a happier mood amongst the children with no-one feeling that they have been done down by getting their room decorated last. What tends to happen though when the you’re decorating the rooms with the kids’ help is that more paint gets splashed everywhere than where it should be. But then that was part of the reason you opted to begin decorating the kids rooms and perhaps even their play areas first, wasn’t it.

You’ll be much happier for at least getting started on your decorating project and your kids will be happier for having their rooms redecorated too, not to mention the sheer fun you’ll be having while you’re busy doing all this. This isn’t of course to say, that decorating kids rooms isn’t hassle or stress free.

On the contrary, you’ll probably get a boatload more stress by the time you’ve finished, but at least you’ll have had the satisfaction of getting closer to your children and seeing their rooms tidy for at least one day before they move back into them again.

Southwestern Home Decor

So what exactly is southwestern home decor and how can you introduce it into your own home? Well, to start with southwestern home decor reflects the southwest and all its most famous aspects. Southwestern home decor involves colourful throw rugs, gorgeous wall hangings, and if you look hard enough, you can even unearth some great kitchen accessories too.

If you’re thinking about introducing southwestern home decor into your home, first of all, you have to check whether it would fit in with your existing decor or whether it would clash horribly. Almost all southwestern home decor has bright, eye catching colours, as well as stunning designs and motifs.

So, if your existing furniture would clash with any of these lovely pieces you can do one of two things. Firstly, you could always just throw out every single piece of ratty and unwanted furniture that you already have and replace it with gorgeous pieces of southwestern home decor. Or you could just buy one or two pieces of the southwestern home decor range and match it selectively to your existing pieces.

Personally speaking, I would just love to replace everything I already have since there’s some wear and tear, but in reality that’s just not possible. For one thing it would just be way over my budget, and for another I would rather not have to listen to a lecture from my mother about waste. I’ve discovered that you can escape from your friends but not from your mother!

Besides, I’m also a little happy that I didn’t give into my first impulse and redecorate all in a southwestern home decor style. Sure, it does look really nice, but sometimes I also like the peace and quiet that some of my other pieces of furniture bring to in me. Therefore, I have now come up with the perfect solution and have instead decided on purchasing one-off pieces that catch my attention and sprinkling my home with them instead.

And I have to say that its made quite a difference in the look and feel of my entire home. Expensive pieces of the more traditional furniture now rest quite comfortably next to the more vibrant and stunning designs of my southwestern home decor. I’ve even bought a great rug for my bathroom floor and a beautiful set of hand towels. My kitchen sports a new set of southwestern motifs, and my foyer has the most amazing lampshade and statuette in full view.

Though all of this might sound over the top, I’ve found that this is the best way to bring the glories of southwestern home decor into my life, without going all out and renewing your entire house with southwestern decor and motifs.

Moreover, you just want to bring a dash of southwestern decor to your home, don’t you? Not the whole sheebang! Oh, and did I forget to mention the gorgeous tapestry I bought the other day? It’s just right.

Kitchen Decorating Ideas

It’s a Sunday morning and you’re sitting there waiting for your coffee machine to stop its cycle, so you can have that vital early morning cup of coffee. Nonchalantly, you look about your kitchen and notice a spot of paint missing from the corner of the door. It had happened years ago but you never really took any notice of it before now.

You continue to allow your gaze to stray and your eye catches a patch of mildew growing under the sink, then you notice the ugly brown colour your ceiling has become just above where the cooker is.

The paint is faintly off colour, and the only papered wall is beginning to look old-fashioned and grubby. You take a fortifying sip of your now-ready coffee and decide that a little bit of kitchen decorating is needed.

How do you go about it though? And how soon can you get into it? Now that you’ve finally noticed all the signs of decay that you had been quite successfully ignoring up until that moment, you can’t wait to begin your little kitchen decorating project.

That however is where the crunch comes. Just how modest do you want to keep your kitchen decorating project? Can you get away with sloshing a fresh coat of paint on everything or will you need to go to the lengths of removing the wallpaper off the wall, and finding out where that mildew stain might be coming from.

Naturally enough, it all depends on you and your budget, but if you can spare the time, energy and money, you’ll probably do better, in the long run. to get rid of all your kitchen decorating problems at once. That would include stripping the wallpaper, replacing any carpeting or rugs that you might have, and perhaps even sanding down your wooden floors if you have them. If you’re going to do a complete job of kitchen decorating however then you’ll also need that all important final coat of fresh paint to smarten up your kitchen.

You may also want to consider replacing those tatty old curtains as they’re also probably looking distinctly old by now. So, go on and splurge on your kitchen decorating project and replace the curtains and while you’re about it, you should think of investing in a new stack of tea towels as well. It won’t hurt to go all out while you can.

And when you’ve eventually finished, you will be able to sit back and enjoy your new kitchen and remember that weekend morning that started it all off. You’ll have absolutely no regrets whatsoever, since your kitchen decorating project has provided you with a far better kitchen than you had ever hoped for.

A feeling of contentment flows through you as you raise your new coffee mug to your lips. Life just doesn’t get any better than when you’re enjoying the fruits of your labour.

Ideas For Painting Indoors

Redecorating or renovating your home is never easy and it just gets much harder and more boring when you need to paint as well. Sloshing on one coat of paint after another can be draining if you’re going it alone and still have the whole house to think about.

And let’s not even start talking about those ceilings! But even though you may stick to the same old fashioned exterior paint job, it doesn’t have to be the same for the interior – you could always try some outlandish but wonderful interior painting ideas. If nothing else you’ll be guaranteeing a reaction from all those who enter your home.

By keeping the exterior painting to the bare minimum, you can spend more time and more creativity inside. You can let your imagination run wild with all those interior painting ideas you always wanted to implement but never got around to. There’s no time like the present, and really, when are you going to get around to painting your house again?

However, don’t be alarmed! When I’m talking about flamboyant interior painting ideas, I’m not saying that you should do something that resembles modern art paintings, no, I’m talking about something more along the lines of a paint job that reflects your personality.

So your interior painting ideas need not be anything bolder than a splash of vibrant colour on one wall, surrounded by soothing colours on the other walls. This works very well in any house and the vibrant colour that you pick out can be either soothing or primal, depending on what you want to show of yourself. You could, of course, always go to extremes and emulsion all the walls a bright vibrant shade or even mix and match different shades on different walls.

If you’re doing this, then you may want to think about the effect you’ll have and whether you can actually live with the colour scheme for very long. Crazy and inspired interior painting ideas are all very well and good, but you should always think about whether you’re going to be able to bear the sight of your newly panted walls or not after a month or so. If you are going to have to repaint everything again, it kind of defeats the purpose.

This doesn’t mean that you should restrain your creativity or stifle your interior painting ideas, all it means is that some of the bolder ideas you have, should perhaps be the subject of a small test-run somewhere else.

Don’t think of painting your house as a chore. If you really want to, you can always think of yourself as Michelangelo or Da Vinci or any one of those great artists and paint a stunning picture on your walls. The only requirement is that you turn your great interior painting ideas into reality and that you have fun while you’re doing it.

Interior Decorating Ideas

The cold of winter has got hold of you and you’re mooching around trying to decide what to do with yourself. You’re snowbound and the only thing that you can think of doing is sitting in front of the fire, drinking hot chocolate and staring broodingly out of the window. The only thing with that is that you’ve already been doing just that for a while now and you’ve have had quite enough of fires, hot chocolate and brooding.

Now you’re just about ready to do something different, so, you turn to the only comfort you have and switch on the TV. You’re instantly enthralled as you come across one of those many shows about how you can jazz up your home. You find yourself flooded with decorating ideas, both interior decor and exterior decor ideas.

So, you finally find yourself captivated by a program that you would have dismissed earlier and jump out of your seat to fetch a pen and notebook to jot down all those great ideas. In no time at all, you’ve run out of pages in your notebook and have to leave your warm armchair to go fetch another one.

Before you get back to your chair, you’ve made a tour around the house and have seen many of the things that you’ve spent a lifetime trying to avoid – the cracks in the bedroom wall, the faint spot of mildew in the bathroom, the paint chipping off many of the walls.

The list is never ending and could easily cover many pages. So you dutifully sit down, and alongside your notes on various decorating ideas on interior design and general redecorating, you studiously take down all the little things that need repairing, replacing or refitting.

The list fills even your second notebook but you decide to finish there, because it’s giving you writer’s cramp, and besides you already have all the relevant facts to hand, so now you have to set about sorting them into directions that you can easily carry out.

Not an easy job that, when your decorating ideas, interior designs and room-by-room list of snags is all mixed up in one messy pile. You then turn to the tried and tested, age-old method of sitting on the floor and surrounding yourself with your notes in an attempt at finding some logical order you can follow later.

When you eventually reach that sublime state of order, you sit back with a tired but satisfied smile on your face. The knowledge that you’ll now have enough decorating ideas and interior design plans and less spare time on your hands during those long hard months of winter, sends a gush of contentment flowing right through you. After all, there’s nothing like a job well done and the knowledge that next spring, your home will look nothing like its former shabby self.

Ideas for Painting Walls

So here you are, you’ve bought your new house! Its a bit of a mess since the previous owner was in a hurry to sell and had been in the middle of redecorating. You don’t really mind that though, since it gives you the perfect opportunity to do your house up exactly the way you want it to be done.

However, now you need to decide where everything should go and which colours would suit which rooms, but you don’t have any wall painting ideas.

So, you eagerly look through your new keys and wander through your new house. The minute you step in through a door ideas hit you. That huge urn you bought a year ago would look fantastic in the corner, and you’re pretty sure that your existing sofa set will fit in this other room. And you know the antique mirror table would look stunning in the hallway. The only thing you really get hung up on though are wall painting ideas.

You don’t want to just dab on a coat of neutral coloured paint and be done with it. What you want is a masterpiece, something that you can look at with pride every time you see it. Naturally, you should be able to keep looking at it with pleasure for some time to come as well, so it shouldn’t be too over the top.

But where can you get some good wall painting ideas from, and how do you go about getting the wall painting done? There are a few ways that you could go about it. The easiest being if you have an artistic streak in you, then you could always get your wall painting ideas off the cuff, so to speak and paint the walls as you see fit. Unfortunately, most of us aren’t very artistic and we are hesitant to pick up a brush or roller and apply the first coat of paint without any guidance. In this scenario then, you will need some help.

You could start off by hiring a professional decorator to help you to decide which styles would look suit your home or you could sit down and watch some DIY TV programs, in which they show some pretty stylish ideas on what to do when re-decorating a house and will even give you some stylish wall painting ideas.

If neither of these is a viable option for you though, you might just settle for going down to your local hardware shop with a few fabric swatches and colour sheets of your most prominent pieces of furniture and enlist their help on stylish wall decorating ideas.

You might come up with a hodge-podge of wall painting ideas with this last idea, but I found that it was the one that worked best for me and now I’m very proud of my slightly quirky house. It reflects who I am just perfectly.
